"As an artist, the main thing you offer is your individuality. We understand ourselves little enough. And we understand the character we're playing even less well. But the communication between the real individual and the fictional individual is so complex, that any diminution of that process is not paying full attention to what it is to be an actor."
Robert Prosky has appeared in more than 200 plays on Broadway and in regional theatre. He has been in thirty-eight films and numerous television shows. He has been given or nominated for two Tony awards, two Helen Hayes awards, an Emmy, the Drama Desk award, The American Express Tribute To An American Actor, (other recipients include Jason Robards, James Earl Jones, Jane Alexander and Julie Harris) and many others. He has appeared on Broadway in "Glengarry Glenross," "A Walk in the Woods," and "A View from the Bridge," among others.
Highlights from regional theater include "Death of a Salesman," "Twelfth Night," and "You Can't Take It With You." He has also performed onstage in the Moscow Art theater in Russia, the Gate Theater in Dublin, Ireland, as well as in a Chinese theater in Hong Kong. His films include "Mrs. Doubtfire," "The Natural," and "Dead Man Walking." Television credits include three years on "Hill Street Blues," many television films and guest shots. He also gives lectures on his long career at universities, film festivals, for theater benefits, business groups and on cruises.
He has just finished a long run on Broadway in Michael Frayn's play "Democracy," as well as a production of "Awake and Sing" at the Arena Stage in Washington D.C. http://arenastage.org
